CLIMATE FICTION: Climate change inspires rise of 'cli-fi' flicks. Tamara Lush (@TamaraLush) has written an Associated Press piece about the growing niche Sci-Fi genre called Cli-Fi, featuring books and movies containing hysterical doomsday scenarios built around climate change, fka Global Warming, aka manbearpig. (Tip o' the hat to South Park (@SouthPark)). In Cli-Fi, a term Danny Bloom (@polarcityman) purportedly invented, human progress and modern technology are portrayed as evil forces that threaten to destroy mankind, typically at the hands of greedy business owners. The article quotes Bloom claiming the fiction is needed "to go beyond abstract, scientific predictions..." Given the dismal failure of those "scientific" predictions to date, I think that Bloom may be correct about the urgent need (in some quarters) to replace fact with fiction as quickly as possible.
